Conference/Event

HP+ at the Fourth Global Symposium on Health Systems Research

HSR logo

Health systems researchers, advocates, program managers, and policymakers from across the globe will be convening in Vancouver, Canada November 14-18 to attend the Fourth Global Symposium on Health Systems Research. HP+ staff will be there as well - see our symposium roadmap below - participating in these exchanges and contributing evidence and ideas as to how to achieve resilient and responsive health systems worldwide.

Health systems are constantly changing, responding both to the societies of which they are part, and to emerging challenges to the provision of care. In order to achieve universal health coverage worldwide, we must push the boundaries of heath systems research to better address the challenges of our changing world.

The HP+ communications teams will be covering our involvement at the conference. We’ll be blogging and posting on social media throughout the week, so keep your eye on our Twitter and Facebook accounts, and this portal, to stay abreast of our most recent news.

November 16, 12:30-14:00pm
Poster #: EH-ip51

The Afghanistan government is investigating the feasibility of introducing health insurance as a means of reducing the high financial burden on households and improving the country’s independence of the funding in health. This study aims to document stakeholders’ opinions on establishing health insurance schemes in the country.

Political Will for Health System Devolution in Kenya: Insights from Three Counties

Presenter: Aaron Mulaki
November 17, 2016
Time: 11:00–12:30pm
Meeting room: 10

Governance of health systems is essential yet understanding of different ways in which governance affects outcomes and performance, and of the different governance mechanisms is still limited. Papers in this session highlight the different approaches.

Using Web and SMS Based Systems to Improve Human Rights for PLHIV and Key Populations in Ghana

Presenter: Taylor Williamson
November 17, 12:30–14:00pm
Poster #: GE-ip41

In Ghana, treaties, constitutional provisions, legislation and policies protect the human rights of people living with HIV (PLHIV) and key populations, though these groups have little recourse when discrimination occurs. The USAID- and PEPFAR-funded Health Policy Project supported the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, the Ghana AIDS Commission, and civil society organizations to develop a reporting system to improve access to justice for PLHIV and key populations.

Looking Towards Incorporating Social Accountability into Family Planning

Aaron Mulaki
November 18, 12:00–13:30pm
Poster #: II-ip87

In family planning (FP), adoption of social accountability has been limited as the FP community has historically focused on advocacy to advance sexual and reproductive health rights in both international fora and at the country level. HPP undertook a literature review on social accountability to analyze if and how other fields of social accountability could contribute to FP programming.
