August 26, 2016
The most recent issue of Global Health: Science and Practice, includes an article co-authored by HP+’s Sara Pappa. The piece, “Postabortion Care: 20 Years of Strong Evidence on Emergency Treatment, Family Planning, and Other Programming Components,” offers key study findings and program recommendations for improved Postabortion Care (PAC) services worldwide. This study builds on the evidence compiled in USAID’s first PAC Research Compendium, analyzing research conducted from 2003-2013.
USAID’s PAC model contains 3 components: emergency treatment, family planning, and community empowerment.
- Emergency treatment
- Family planning counseling and service delivery, and where financial and human resources exist, evaluation and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) as well as HIV counseling and/or referral for testing
- Community empowerment through community awareness and mobilization
