Sara Bowsky

Sara Bowsky, HP+ deputy director for HIV and COVID-19, is a global HIV expert with more than 20 years of experience managing and implementing care and treatment programs, particularly for pediatric and adolescent HIV. Sara provides guidance and leadership around implementation and strategic advancement of HP+’s HIV portfolio, and represents the project to partners and donors. Sara has 10-plus years of field experience in HIV-endemic countries in Africa while working with USAID and several nongovernmental organizations. She served USAID in Washington, DC; in Mozambique, as HIV continuum of care advisor and infectious disease division chief (2011–2013); in Lesotho; and as HIV care advisor in the Africa Bureau (2006–2011). Sara has contributed to many HIV and AIDS working groups, including those spearheaded by PEPFAR and national ministries of health, and has served as technical advisor on key international documents related to pediatric disclosure, early infant diagnosis, and prevention of mother-to-child transmission. Sara holds a Master of Public Health from Tulane University, a Bachelor of Science/Nursing from Johns Hopkins University, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at Davis. She is a board-certified RN.
