Countries with a high burden of tuberculosis (TB) are looking to identify options to domestically and sustainably fund their TB response and accelerate toward TB elimination. This comes in an era of ambitious new commitments after the 2018 UNGA High Level Meeting on TB, alongside a plateau in external funding. While national and local health budgets are critical sources of domestic financing, policymakers are also considering whether TB services may be purchased at scale by health insurance schemes.
HP+ has provided support in Cambodia, El Salvador, Indonesia, and Nigeria to diversify and raise their domestic funding streams for TB. This webinar summarized answers to critical questions from these experiences, such as: What evidence needs to be generated to catalyze sustainable financing for TB? How can TB be sustainably and meaningfully integrated into health insurance schemes?
Our panelists discussed lessons learned from each country, the challenges encountered, and the role of the private sector in the TB response.
