Derick Brinkerhoff

Derick Brinkerhoff is a distinguished fellow in international public management at RTI and the HP+ technical leader for stewardship. He has over 35 years of experience in 29 countries, working on governance, decentralization, policy implementation, public administration, citizen participation, and capacity development, with a long-term focus on the health sector. Derick served as senior governance advisor for HPP and as team leader for health governance for Health Systems 20/20. His recent research and technical support has concentrated on governance and health system strengthening, political will, social accountability, capacity development, and political economy. Prior to joining RTI in 2003, Derick worked at Abt Associates, the University of Maryland’s International Development Management Center, and USAID, along with several years of independent consulting. He holds a doctorate in social policy and administration from Harvard University and is a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration, elected in 2010.
