While much attention is given to reducing unmet need and the uptake of modern contraception, much less attention is given to helping women continue to use their methods once they start. Almost one in three new users of family planning discontinues within 12 months of starting for a variety of reasons. Building off the HP+ blog series on contraceptive discontinuation, this online policy forum will engage a group of family planning experts to discuss how program efforts can be strengthened to reduce discontinuation while helping women achieve their reproductive goals.

Program areas related to counseling and services, supply chain, and community norms —a few of the topics included in the blog series—are on the agenda for this lively discussion about how family planning programs can better help women continue with the methods they choose.
