This webinar, presented by experts from HP+, reviewed methodologies used to assess the technical efficiency of health services in developing countries. Technical efficiency is in renewed focus as the world grapples with the stress COVID-19 places on health systems, and as there is a push to make limited resources stretch to deliver more. The webinar will review methods, such as data envelopment analysis, as well as the limitations of the methods.

The first case presented a data envelopment analysis of efficiency in for-profit hospitals in Indonesia. Our experts also presented two other approaches to assessing technical efficiency, including presentation of a new HP+ tool for assessing technical efficiency of family planning programs and a study conducted at the county-level in Kenya. The Q&A and discussion focused on applications of these approaches and the need for further research into technical efficiency.
