An Approach for Estimating the Economic Impact of COVID-19 on Gold Mining and Cotton Production in Burkina Faso
Hosted by: Steven Forsythe and Michel Tchuenche
In 2020, HP+ assessed how COVID-19 affected the two largest economic sectors in Burkina Faso—gold mining and cotton production—and developed projections of how these sectors will be affected in the future by analyzing price and productivity trends and qualitative assessments of what was occurring to the labor force as the epidemic unfolded. Individuals attending this session will be able to identify the emerging techniques that economic modelers are using to better understand how pandemics may affect economic growth and profitability in vulnerable sectors of the economy.
