Indirect Health Impacts of COVID-19 in Burkina Faso: Potential Impact of Declines in Utilization of Key Health Services

In Burkina Faso, COVID-19 presents challenges to the country’s health system, and as such it is important to recognize the potential impact of the epidemic in the country on various health sectors. Evidence from past disease outbreaks, as well as emerging evidence specific to COVID-19, suggests that utilization of key health services is likely to decline, having potential devastating consequences for men, women, and children across the country. This analysis captures the potential impact of COVID-19 for maternal and child health, family planning, malaria, tuberculosis, and HIV, based on several scenarios of the severity and duration of the epidemic in Burkina Faso.
