The Impact of COVID-19 on Subnational Government Financing and Household Financial Risk Protection in Indonesia

As Indonesia’s central government works on procuring COVID-19 vaccines, subnational governments must prepare to administer the vaccine to their populations. HP+ has supported preparation efforts in each of Indonesia’s 34 provinces by projecting the subnational cost of both the vaccine campaign and ongoing non-pharmaceutical interventions. HP+ also estimated the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on healthcare utilization, out-of-pocket health expenditure, and incidence of catastrophic health expenditure in all 34 provinces. Understanding how the pandemic has affected healthcare consumption and spending will help governments better target their support to healthcare providers and households.
