How-to Guide: Implementing the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative in Malawi

This guide aims to equip program implementers and other stakeholders wanting to participate in scaling up Malawi’s Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) with technical and operational resources to train and support a large number of providers in their respective areas and facilities. Evidence-based approaches and learnings from HP+’s support of the initiative, during which all 12 hospitals passed the required external assessment for BFHI certification, are provided. In particular, the guide will help program implementers anticipate important resource needs, understand implementation bottlenecks, and effectively scale-up over time across facilities.
