Legacy Impact: Madagascar

In the past five years, Madagascar’s government has advanced four major policy initiatives which, when implemented successfully, promise to improve access to family planning, leading to reductions in maternal and infant mortality and progress toward broader health and development goals. HP+ has been an instrumental partner in these areas, helping with (1) passage of a new reproductive health/family planning law, (2) developing and implementing a multi-year roadmap for achieving family planning goals, (3) approval of a tax exemption for contraceptives, and (4) review of a universal health coverage agenda and health financing strategy. By supporting the Ministry of Public Health and other key ministries in the areas of policy, advocacy, financing, and governance, HP+ has worked to strengthen evidence-based decision making for health sector policy and financing and strengthened capacity for and access to family planning at the national and subnational levels.
