Health Policy Plus: Groundbreaking Research and Initiatives to Measure and Reduce Stigma and Discrimination

In the fight against HIV and AIDS, stigma and discrimination are key barriers to HIV prevention, care, and treatment in health facilities. Those most likely to be susceptible to HIV-related stigma are also often most at risk for HIV-infection. To address the barriers created by HIV-related stigma and discrimination, HP+ is conducting research to give health facilities the tools to fight stigma and discrimination and accelerate progress toward epidemic control. This brief outlines HP+’s stigma and discrimination work and explains how we’re implementing our total facility approach in Tanzania, Ghana, and Jamaica.
