HP+/Project SOAR Oral PrEP Modeling

Clinical trials have shown that oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a safe and effective HIV prevention intervention in several populations. In collaboration with Project SOAR, HP+ has developed a new modeling approach to provide impact, cost, and cost-effectiveness data for decision-making to assist countries in strategic planning for the introduction and scale-up of oral PrEP. Using lessons learned from in-country stakeholder consultation in Lesotho, Mozambique, Uganda, and Swaziland, the HP+ modeling approach has been applied as a desk analysis in Ethiopia, Haiti, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. This webinar was an opportunity for HP+ to present and interpret the desk analysis results, and for country PEPFAR teams to share their thoughts and experiences regarding how this modeling can inform PrEP policy and planning as they enter into COP18 planning. Participants from Ethiopia, Haiti, Kenya, Malawi, and Nigeria were particularly encouraged to join, as this was the first orientation for these countries.
