Presentations from Attaining Sustainable Financing for Family Planning in Sub-Saharan Africa

Given limited domestic funding for family planning, recent instability in external financial support for family planning scale-up, ambitious Family Planning 2020 (FP2020) targets, and the focus on achieving universal health coverage, there is a need to develop sustainable financing plans for primary healthcare, including family planning, in low- and middle-income countries. This need is particularly acute in sub-Saharan Africa, where generally the unmet need for modern family planning methods and total fertility are very high. To address these issues, a critical coming together is needed for stakeholders from in-country offices of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), government health departments focused on family planning and reproductive health, government finance departments, and key technical and donor partners.
