Given limited domestic funding for family planning, recent instability in external financial support for family planning scale-up, ambitious Family Planning 2020 (FP2020) targets, and the focus on achieving universal health coverage, there is a need to develop sustainable financing plans for primary healthcare, including family planning, in low- and middle-income countries. This need is particularly acute in sub-Saharan Africa, where generally the unmet need for modern family planning methods and total fertility are very high. To address these issues, a critical coming together is needed for stakeholders from in-country offices of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), government health departments focused on family planning and reproductive health, government finance departments, and key technical and donor partners.
Cathy Barker Cantelmo soft launched the USAID/HP+ FP Financing Roadmap, a newly developed website, that provides resources on FP financing and an interactive module that offers recommendations for financing FP based on a country’s specific context.
