Population dynamics lay at the heart of some of the most salient development topics in Guatemala. While Guatemala has a detailed vision for addressing its challenges outlined in its development plan, Plan K’atun, its resources are limited. To help inform how Guatemala can best prioritize its development resources, the Health and Education Policy Plus project conducted a study to examine (1) the interaction between population dynamics and human capital investments, and (2) how achieving certain Plan K’atun goals could affect health, education, economic, and security outcomes and sectors. The resulting report and brief summarize these findings and argue that achieving Plan K’atun’s family planning and educational goals could have positive, long-term impacts on the country’s development and security.
