Civil Society Organizations Engage Parliamentarians on Key Health Budget Priorities in Tanzania
On April 18, 2018, HP+ supported a network of civil society organizations in Tanzania to hold a session on key budget issues with members of the Parliamentary Social Development and Services Committee. Civil society representatives presented advocacy messages developed with HP+ support and based in part on budget analyses conducted by HP+. Advocates from Sikika, the National Council of People Living with HIV and AIDS, and the Community Health and Development Initiative put forward several recommendations that were welcomed by committee members and incorporated into the Minister of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children's budget speech. The Honorable Peter Serukamba, Chairperson of the Social Development and Services Committee, noted that "these materials and the presentation made has sharpened the committee's tools in the discussion of the health budget."
