What We Do
HP+ supported the West African Health Organization (WAHO) to develop and train the West Africa Health Informatics Team (WAHIT). While funded by HP+, WAHIT, a team of local health informatics experts, provided technical leadership and support to ministries of health across the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to strengthen health information systems through local capacity building.
Specifically, WAHIT:
- Made immediate technical improvements in national and regional digital health information systems
- Built local software developer capacity to support the long-term sustainability of health information system investments
- Helped establish a regional health information system center of excellence, now embedded within WAHO
Together, these efforts fortified the existing health information systems throughout West Africa and built local capacity to better monitor, detect, and prevent future disease outbreaks. Learn more by accessing the final report and case studies.
