What We Do
HP+ is helping countries make progress toward their FP2020 commitments and other development goals by investing in women leaders. These leaders engage in the kind of ongoing advocacy and multi-level action that is needed to monitor progress toward FP2020 and other development goals and to keep pressure on decision-makers to ensure that they do not waiver on their commitments in the face of competing demands for budget, resources, and infrastructure. Our Women's Leadership and Accountability initiative is developing and piloting innovative approaches for women leaders who represent government, civil society, and elected bodies to promote joint accountability for FP2020 commitments in Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Uganda. This evidence-based approach strengthens local capacity, fosters dialogue, and uncovers gaps and opportunities to rally country stakeholders to overcome accountability hurdles that limit performance and a country's path to meeting FP2020 commitments. Through this initiative and our country programs, HP+ is:
- Supporting new cadres of women leaders to develop leadership, advocacy, and accountability skills and to engage effectively in policy dialogue and coordinated advocacy for executing FP2020 costed implementation plans
- Integrating women's leadership programs within comprehensive, country-level domestic resource mobilization activities for family planning
- Developing new curricula and mentoring tools for skills development and ongoing support for advocacy and accountability activities
- Promoting learning and mentoring among and between women leaders in the countries where we work
- Expanding its women's leadership approach to more regions and technical areas, including health, education, and nutrition
